Before I am a photographer, I am a daughter, a sister, an auntie, a friend. Maybe that's why I cry during every father daughter dance. I laugh at every toast. I well up when an Officiant pronounces a couple husband and wife. I buzz with joy chasing children around the playground. I feel awe when a newborn's tiny hand clutches my pinky finger. I draw from the emotions I have experienced through my own life's most precious moments to know when and how to capture those of others, and I usually can't help feeling overwhelmed myself! The emotional rush I feel when I'm behind the camera is what makes me love what I do. The joy I bring others through photography is what makes me do what I love.

Jill and Andrew :: Married!

I had the pleasure of photographing Jill and Andrew's wedding yesterday at St. Aloysius Church in DC, followed by their reception at the DoubleTree Hotel at Scott Circle.

It was a small and intimate wedding, with family and friends celebrating Jill and Andrew's special day. Jill and Andrew met while they were serving in the Peace Corps and several of their friends who served with them, including their lovely maid of honor, Leslie, were present at the wedding.

My good friend Armin DeFiesta joined me in photographing the wedding. It was so fun having Armin there - I love how a 2nd photographer provides another perspective. While I was taking the shot above, Armin was taking the one below.

Andrew's sister and sister-in-law worked hard and made all of the flower arrangements, including these lovely bouquets. I was really impressed with the job they did - aren't they lovely?

And while I was photographing the lovely ladies, Armin was photographing the guys. I love this shot he got of Andrew and his groomsmen.

At the end of the night, Armin and I took Jill and Andrew outside for a few quick shots.

Special thank you to my dear friends, Pamela and Chris, who referred Jill and Andrew to me. Chris, who is Andrew's older brother, served as Best Man. He gave a great speech which was thoughtful and funny. I loved it!

Stay tuned - more highlights and a slideshow coming up soon.
